Chiropractic adjustment
How a chiropractic treatment help our overall health.
Chiropractic adjustments are about much more than simply relieving back and neck pain. Ensuring that your spine and your entire nervous system operate properly is the primary function of a chiropractor. Your spine, which consists of 24 vertebrae, serves both to support your musculoskeletal system and to protect your nervous system. In fact, your nervous system controls every aspect of your body. Therefore, it only makes sense that it is necessary to have your spine in proper alignment in order for your nervous system to function optimally, have the full range of motion, and for you to be as healthy and pain-free as possible.
Spinal misalignment / subluxation
Subluxations are misalignments on your vertebrae that put pressure on your nervous system and can limit your normal spinal motion and function. Most people are not aware that the cause of their condition may be an imbalance in their musculoskeletal and nervous systems.
Adjustments or Mobilization consist of the use of gentle directional force to move stuck or subluxated (misaligned) vertebrae or joints back to their normal position, relieving pressure on the nerve and allowing the body to receive the energy and signals needed to heal itself.
Medical Massage
Kinesio-tape is a flexible, elastic tape that is applied to soft tissues to promote stability, reduce inflammation, improve proprioception and prevent injuries. Application of this tape by a licensed provider allows the athlete to recover quickly and prevent repetitive injuries. Specific techniques of kinesiotaping may also be administered to significantly reduce bruising and swelling associated with acute injuries
One recent study showed that when kinesiology tape was applied over the knee, it increased the space in the knee joint. A similar study showed kinesiology tape also increased the space in the shoulder joint. Even though the increase in space is slight, it helps reduce the chance of joint irritation.
Kinesiology tapping
Medical massage therapy which is a type of deep tissue muscle therapy focuses on realigning muscles and connective tissues. It is mainly helpful for people that have chronic tightness and stiffness around joint. When chronic muscle tension or injury is present, adhesions are formed in the muscle tissues, tendons, and ligaments. Deep tissue massage works to break down these adhesions and restore movement. Combining medical massage with chiropractic treatments has amazing results. This approach allows your chiropractor and massage therapist to discuss your problems and symptoms so that they can both approach the issue. Your chiropractor can focus on the structural misalignments while your massage therapist can target the muscle adhesions.
IASTM
IASTM (Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization) is a soft tissue technique that utilizes instruments to improve the restoration and healing of soft tissue conditions. The treatment decreases pain, increases range of motion and improves athletic performance. This particular treatment is great for old injuries and post-surgery rehabilitation. Some of the conditions that are treated using this treatment are:
-
Plantar Fasciitis
-
Ankle sprain/strain
-
Adhesive capsulitis
-
Carpal tunnel syndrome
-
IT band syndrome
-
Runner & jumper’s knee
-
Golfer’s elbow
-
Tennis elbow
-
Bicep tendonitis
-
Rotator cuff syndrome
-
Neck reduced range of motion
-
Hamstring tightness
Intersegment mechanical traction
Most patients find this therapy to be very relaxing and helpful. The mechanical rollers slowly travel the length of the spine, stretching spinal joints and increasing mobility. This helps to increase and restore necessary elasticity and motion to the spine, as well as improve circulation of spinal fluids and blood flow. This particular treatment is often used prior to chiropractic treatment in order to reduce muscle spasms allowing better movement of the spine.
Electric muscle stimulation
EMS or electrical muscle stimulation causes muscle contractions using an electrical impulse. It could be used as a rehabilitation and preventive tool for people who experience acute muscle spasm and it could be used as a post-exercise recovery tool for athletes. The impulses are generated by a device and are delivered through electrodes on the skin near to the muscles being stimulated. The electrodes are generally pads that adhere to the skin. The impulses mimic the action potential that comes from the central nervous system, causing the muscles to contract. The use of EMS has been cited by sports scientists as a complementary technique for sports training and recovery.
Functional exercise
As we all know exercise is fundamental in our overall health and fitness. At District Wellness we emphasis on daily activity and improving the ability to do functional exercise. We focus on making sure that all joints involved in the excise function properly in order to avoid injury to that area. Proper form and function while doing these exercise can lead to fasted recovery and improve strength and balance.
Postural screening
Incorrect posture can cause variety of different conditions in our body including headaches, neck pain, shoulder pain, difficulty breathing and even digestive issues. We use different methods including digital postural screening to find the root cause of postural abnormalities. Improving posture takes time but it can prevent many conditions as we get older including Arthritis and spinal degenerations.
